In a heavy snowstorm, Moose and the Great Bridge Wildcats punctuated their season with a stunning thumping of powerhouse rival Oscar Smith, 31-0. Senior QB Brian Hudson was 15-17 for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns. Moose added 2 TD's of his own while rushing for 102 yards on 23 carries. Defensively Moose had his best game with 8 tackles and an one interception.

Next up for the Wildcats: the State Playoffs.

I have long been a Saint. When I lived in Oklahoma I hated the defacto hometeam Dallas Cowboys. Except for a few years pulling for the Seahawks, my favorite team was whoever was playing Dallas that week. Eventually, though, I learned to respect the principle of locality and began looking at area teams as possible suitors.

The most tantalizing mystery of the Oklahoma Sooner recruiting season has to be the intents of DE Jackson Jeffcoat (video).

The No. 2 player in ESPN rankings has some interesting connections to his suitors. His dad, former Dallas Cowboys D-lineman Jim Jeffcoat, is the DL coach at Houston -- which is definitely in the hunt. His dad's alma mater, Arizona State, also is a viable option. The elder Jeffcoat reportedly was in consideration for a job with the Oklahoma staff, and the Sooners also are in the mix. Better still, Jeffcoat's twin sister Jacqueline is also committed to Oklahoma to play basketball. USC, where Jackson camped last summer, had been in the mix too since Jim Jeffcoat was once teammates and is still close to linebackers coach Ken Norton. However, Norton left with Pete Carroll for Seattle and with that, the Trojans are off the radar. Meanwhile, there is Texas, which usually lands the top in-state player, especially when it's a kid who grew up in Texas. Mack Brown spent a lot of time at Jeffcoat's school last week and some observers took it as a good indicator for OU's chances when Jeffcoat didn't commit to Texas then.

They are wringing their hands in Soonerland. A shortened visit to Norman caused all kinds of consternation, despite the fact that Jeffcoat had a football banquet to attend back in his hometown of Plano. Rumors are flying that his mother is moving to Norman, that his dad has been hired by OU, etc., etc.

Not that the Sooners are bereft of DE's if Jeffcoat decides to go elsewhere. The number 13 DE in the country, Geneo Grissom, has already committed to OU.

The Great Bridge defense only yielded one touchdown, its first of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcat offense never got untracked after an early injury to running back Moose Norton. A Johnson returned an interception 66 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter for the Grizzlies. A couple of minutes later, C. Gwynn caught a 26 yard pass from T. Clark. That was all the scoring in a defensive struggle until Grassfield added a field goal on the last play of the game, after Great Bridge turned over the ball on downs deep in their own territory.

Moose was injured in the first quarter and was never effective, rushing for only 15 yards on 7 attempts and fumbling at a critical juncture with two minutes in the third quarter and Great Bridge driving at the Grassfield 30 after getting a turnover from Grassfield. On defense, Moose had only 2 tackles, although one was for a loss,

The first round at Wentworth began much like Bethpage: bogeys on the first three holes. For some reason I was getting a little less distance than normal, even during warm-ups. But then I parred the par 5 4th, and parred all remaining holes except the 8th, which I birdied, to go out at only two over par. On the back nine I began to feel for the first time like I could compete. Yes, I mad three bogeys; I also made three birdies. I took some risks and missed a couple of fairways, or I probably would have finished even better.

I've played with Targets in Tiger Woods PGA Tour before and quickly got bored. I would actually prefer a realistic driving range in the game, although I'm not exactly sure what the difference would be. In any case I decided last night to give it another go to get some swings in, and discovered a new incentive: bonus bucks.

The Wildcats have not allowed a touchdown yet this season as Great Bridge downed Hickory 41-3. Player of the game Brian Hudson was 14-16 for 252 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats exploited the Hickory secondary early. Moose Norton scored a pair of touchdowns rushed for 155 yards on 27 attempts, 97 of that in the second half as Great Bridge ground out the clock. Great Bridge was knocking on the door as time expired. On defense A. Gould had six tackles followed by five each for Norton, M. Meier and J. Wood, who had 2 sacks.

The first tournament in my new Tiger Woods PGA career was the one day New Years Day Tournament at Bethpage. It wasn't pretty.
